Dentistry

This post contains several references to the Harry Potter universe, because I needed to vent my pained feelings to somebody who would know what I meant when I use the Cruciatus curse to describe a particular kind of pain.

I was at the dentist’s some 12 hours ago, and fixed three more molars* (whole bottom jaw has now been tortured through), and now only have two more appointments to go before I am hopefully out of that office for YEARS to come (unlike previous years, with all the breaking and cracking of molars**).  The local anesthetic*** lasts for about 5-6 hours, and I started to feel tiny twinges of pain in the middle molar (of those fixed) around that time. “Oh no”, I think to myself, as I have already gone through more than a month of not being able to chew properly with the left side of my mouth because of similar pains in the opposite molar, “Good thing I`m going back there tomorrow anyway”.  After a few hours of small twinges now and then, there’s a slight pause. “It’s over!” I hope. And then the mother of all pains shoots through my tooth, and it is like being hit with the Cruciatus curse for a millisecond before being almost immediately let go again.  And as you stand there, trying to catch your breath, someone hits you again, and even though you were merely hit by the curse for a millisecond, you can feel the ghost of the pain shooting through your whole body, immobilizing you before turning you into a quivering mess, anxiously waiting for the next twinge.  Sometimes a few minutes pass inbetween, sometimes almost an hour. Maybe you start to forget. And then it hits you again; A short burst each time, but it’s enough to drive you mad.

*  Including a couple of baby teeth, as I have 2 of those instead of proper teeth because my body is stupid.
**  Seriously, I was breaking whole teeth once a week for a while!
***  Not mentioned: My crippling needle phobia and how I have bravely (and less bravely) defied it more times during the past three months than the Potters defied Voldemort.

PS:  My dentist is new (to me) and he is infinitely better than my many other ones, even though he always insists on sticking a needle in me.  At least he does a proper job, even IF my nerves end up being effed up in the process. ;_;
PPS:  I am going back tomorrow to fix yet another tooth, and HOPEFULLY I can get something done. But if it is anything like the left side, it cannot be fixed. I`d rather lose my whole tooth than go on for days (or MORE??) with this.
PPPS:  I am not writing this to get pity, it was quite therapeutic to just get it out in writing.  I just really needed someone to understand what I mean when I describe a tooth ache by using the Cruciatus curse.

Three pieces of music I`ve been replaying this week.

Obsessing about music is slightly less disturbing

than all the other things I often end up obsessing over.

So this has been an ODD week.   I think I might have acquired one new song per day to obsess over, or at least it feels like it.  Might’ve been every other day over two weeks, instead of one.  tbh, I`m fuzzy.  I haven’t been sleeping much.

Ramin Djawadi – Mhysa

I don’t watch Game of Thrones (I`m saving it, gdi!), but I almost always try listening to music on my Tumblr dash in case it is any good, and quite often it is. Mhysa is one of those I clicked on earlier today.  It’s only been a couple of hours, but it has been playing on almost consecutive repeat since then.

Ramin Djawadi / The National – The Rains of Castamere

Are you KIDDING ME, Matt Berninger sings a song from Game of Thrones?? *happy face*  Seriously, Matt’s voice is TO DIE FOR (horrible joke is horribly too soon) and I have loved this band for about a year, now.  I didn’t even know they were an indie rock band, which they are according to Wiki.  What does indie even mean, does this make me a hipster or something? *puts on sunglasses but decides against it as it makes typing confusing*  I was introduced to their beautiful song Fake Empire through a certain someone’s Twitter, and have listened to every single song on their discography since then (but Fake Empire is still my favorite).  That Matt sings the already beautiful song The Rains of Castamere just makes me love him (and his voice) even more.

Halia Meguid – Ravenstag

Halia wrote this wonderfully dark song inspired by the TV show Hannibal.  It has only been out for a week, and it is absolutely beautiful.  It was the only thing I could listen to earlier today, as I tried to go to sleep in the morning hours with noise and sunlight all around.

Name your stuff!

I always name my stuff.  My material possessions.  (I am a material girl!)  I give them names instead of nouns, a personal nick that sort of becomes their personality after a while.  Or, as is the case with my iPhone 3G, the name actually comes along a little after the personality has settled itself.  But most of my stuff gets dubbed fairly quickly in life, and however weird the names are, that’s how I know and call them.

So, how about compiling a list?

.

The Car:  I have a nice little Nissan Micra, bright blue and cheerful.  It was quickly dubbed The Blueberry (Blåbæret), and that is how I distinguish it from the rest of the family.

.

The Phone:  By now, my iPhone 3G is quite old and outdated.  It will probably get replaced in a few months from now.  The name came gradually, because I always suspected there to be a horcrux inside it somewhere, the way it was behaving.  So I called it The Horcrux, but it was never really baptized as such.  Well, until early 2012, that is.  A friend of mine dubbed it The Dictator, because it kept booting me out of Skype whenever he tried calling me, and we are both convinced that my phone has a personal vendetta against him.  Thus my phone got its full name:  Dictator Horcrux.

The Scooter:  My beautiful PGO scooter has a very distinct look.  The way the black mirrors and front glass stick up from the dark red area, it looks distinctly like the head of a wasp/hornet.  Which is why I call it The Wasp.  (It’s ‘Vepsen’ in Norwegian, which is a pun on my dad’s Vespa.)  And it buzzes!

The computers:

The latest one in my collection was dubbed only the day after I got it up and running.  Topthorn is the name.  Actually, it’s really TopTopThorn, because for some reason I just did it like that and kept it thus.  If you’ve ever seen Warhorse, that’s where it came from.  I think I was listening to a certain track by John Williams when I named it.  I was also in the middle of talking about laptops VS desktops and other kinds of tops.

The second youngest laptop (the one I used the most before the youngest arrived) is simply called AL.  It’s the only one I didn’t name myself.

My older ASUS, the one with a broken lid and pretty much everything else in ruins  (I`m unable to get rid of the old ones for as long as they work even a little, and even then I keep holding on for years after), is named MokoMoko.  I have a sneaking suspicion I was in the middle of my very long-lasting manga obsession when I bought and named it, particularly InuYasha.  Other fans might get the reference, it’s random as heck.

My Seagate external hard drive is named CLU.

Guess why.

.

I do actually have a couple more machines, but they have not yet received their proper names.  There’s also the issue of me naming some of my non-machine possessions. I guess I`ll deal with them in a later post.

Day 22 – A song that you listen to when you’re sad

Sia – Breathe Me

When I’m sad, I usually listen to music that makes me happy again, or I would only fall into a down-spiraling depression.  This one and Hurt does that to me.

Breathe Me is one of my clockwork songs, the ones that instantly set me in a certain mood.  The way Sweet Head makes me happy and Hurt makes me sad, Breathe Me makes me extremely sad and depressed.  It was my clockwork-emo song when my mum was in the hospital with some serious complications.

This one was harder than I originally thought, because it’s which song I listen to when I’m already happy, and not a song that makes me happy.  So I had to imagine what kind of music I put on when I`m already in a good mood, and of course Sherlock Holmes popped up.  No surprise there, really.

I don’t get angry.  If I ever do, it’ll only last for a few seconds, and I won’t listen to any music then anyways.  I might get sad, hurt, irritated or I might be PMS’ing, but angry is not really present in my current emotional vocabulary.

My dad once called Marilyn Manson my ”angry-music”, but I actually listen to metal (and such) when I`m in a good mood, so that’s not right either.

My two (very different) choices represent a few other feelings.

I don’t like albums!  I like songs, and I sometimes like bands, but I don’t like albums, because there’s always a couple of songs in there that I don’t like!

As it is with this one, but at least I like most of the songs in it.  And this is my favorite song of those, and the most listened to.  (140 times on Last.FM)

As I said yesterday; I don’t listen to music on the radio anymore.  So I kinda used this particular question for a song I really like instead.  Though I wouldn’t mind at all if they played it on the radio!  I`d be thrilled!
